THE BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES- A GIST AND BRIEF REPORT

The Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary, non-political educational Movement for young people, open to all without discrimination of origin, race or creed in accordance with the Purpose, Principles and Methods conceived by the founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907.

*Purpose: - The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual potentialities as individuals and responsible citizens and as members of local, national and international communities.

*Principles:- The Movement is based on the following principles of-

(a) Duty to God – Adherence to spiritual principles and loyalty to the religion that expresses them and acceptance of the duties resulting there- from.

(b) Duty to others- Loyalty to one’s country in harmony of local and international peace, understanding and cooperation. Participation in the development of society with recognition and respect for the dignity of one’s fellowmen and for the integrity of a natural world.

(c) Duty to Self- Responsibility for the development of one Self.


*Methods:- It is based on the system of Progressive education through-

(a) A Promise and Law (b) Learning by Doing (c) Membership of smaller groups under adult leadership involving progressive discovery (d) Progressive and stimulating programmes of various activities based on the interest of the participants.


The Laban Assamese Girls’ Secondary School Guide Unit was started on 5th January, 1978. Since its inception, every efforts has been made to involve the members of the Guide Unit in various activities at the local and district level by instilling in the minds of the young ones the leadership skills, values, character development, peace and harmony, love for the country and environment, community services thereby making them to be a responsible citizens.

Through these past few years, the members of the Unit has actively involve in school activities and are always Prepared to perform any activities whenever they are called to. Some of its members even receive the Best Co- Curricular activities awards given by the School itself during Foundation Day. Few of the activities of the Guides unit are shown below:
